Loch Fad | latest news from their Facebook page.
I would like to apologise for a non- active Facebook page recently. As you may be aware I have been trying to address the situation at the Loch and as you can appreciate these matters can take a considerable amount of time.
At the loch in the past few months I have been working hard to find a way forward for the loch and the Scottish trout fishing industry in relation to this parasite tramping through our lochs. If we don’t try and do something now there will be no fishing in Scotland in the future.
To date I have been in touch with as many as 50 people about this and I now have support and interest from universities and the government. We are in the final stages of a three year project at the loch to try out new and old techniques that do work, and to have a go at a loch this size, for the good of tourism on Bute and surrounding areas.
Loch fad will open when all measures are in place, and I will notify all concerned when this happens in the near future.
Things done at fad
1. I have been in contact with Marine Scotland.
2. Ministers in government have been notified about this parasite and have asked them to address the problem in the near future.
3. I have notified the ASSF Fisheries to be aware in the coming months.
4. Composed and produced a flier to make anglers more aware of this parasite.
5. Been in touch with magazine editors to raise awareness.
6. I have been working with universities on a three year project.
7. The loch has been monitored and kept closed to get the full picture. I have found that in the past six months I have had several pike caught, ranging up to high twenty’s, and in a healthy condition with, no or very small numbers of lice on them in the monitoring programme on site.
8. Loch Fad management are well aware that they do not need to be closed, BUT feel that the only way is to have a go with the support from the people who have been involved with the management skills in this area
When the time is right and I have good positive news I will be in touch soon. As you can appreciate I am doing all possible but sometimes when you are in the hands of government you have no choice but to wait no matter how important an issue you think you have. I have asked for help and I await a reply.
