SUMMER WORK AT THE LAKE OF MENTEITH FISHERIES.
We have just seen this advert on The Lake of Menteith Fisheries Facebook page (19/02/2014), this is an ideal opportunity to gain experience at one of Scotland’s top fisheries.
We are looking for someone (possibly a student) with an interest in trout fishery management to provide additional labour over the summer months at the Lake. The remit will be to provide additional cover while the manager or bailiff are on holiday, and general fishery duties. General duties at the fishery include looking after the boats and engines, helping the angling customers, feeding fish, stocking fish, fisher’s cabin general maintenance/housekeeping, fish rearing facilities general maintenance, help in the permit office/ shop and help with office work. Hours are variable but the fishery is open from 8am in the morning until 11.30 pm at night in the middle of the summer. Working hours can be modified to suit candidates.

Fish of The Week Winner | Gerry McFadyen | Lawfield Trout Fishery.
They say good things come in 3′s, well they certainly did for our Fish of The Week winner Gerry McFadyen. Firstly Gerry’s Fish of 12 lb + is a new personal best, secondly it’s the biggest fish landed at Lawfield this year and thirdly it’s also the biggest fish to have won the over 6 lb category in our Fish of The Week competition’s.
Gerry was fishing opposite the hut when his line went solid, Gerry said he new it was a decent fish but when it broke the surface for the first time neither he or the rest of the anglers at Lawfield were prepared for the mayhem that followed, every time he got it near the bank it would take off again. After about 20 minutes and a lot of verbal exchanges between angler and fish Gerry finally got the better of it only to realise he had a new problem in the shape of a small scoop net. Gerry managed to get the head in the net and grab the fish by the tail and lift it onto the platform for a quick photograph before returning the fish to fight another day.
I am sure neither Gerry or any of the other anglers at Lawfield will ever forget this epic battle so all that’s left to say is a big congratulations Gerry you truly are a well deserved winner of our over 6 lb category in our Fish of the week Competitions, enjoy spending your vouchers.
