Lake of Menteith | News Re Algae.
Environmental Health (Stirling Council) visited yesterday to give us signs to post around the Lake (see below in capitals), necessary due to the high concentration of algae in some of the bays.
The frost free winter followed by the warmest and driest summer we can remember at the Lake (Scotland’s second warmest on record) appear to be part of the equation. Recent calm weather has exacerbated the problem with light south -westerlies blowing the algae into Hotel Bay and the boats. The forecast is for a change to lightish north westerlies. SEPA and Environmental health are in the process of sampling. QG
